I Speak

I speak – my blood, my tears, my woes

my cares unfold, the hurts I hold.

———

I write – I see! I breathe freely

not sheepishly, my claims to me.

———

I speak – you bend, not comprehend

the nights I spend. My home, my pen.

———

I write – shine bright, despite their might…

to dim my light. My sight, my fight.

———

I speak – my yoke becomes a joke

For ignorant folk – my air to choke!

———

I write – no shame, give truth it’s name

No words to tame, my restrained flame.

———

I speak – my heart, your hands to start

My words, your tools, rip me apart.

———

I write – no fear, no lies to spare

No masks I wear. I’m bare, I’ll dare…
